Prof. Gamkrelidze G.-The member of scientific committee

Georgi (Giga) Gamkrelidze graduated with a major in physiology with honors from Tbilis State University in 1988. Following years, he conducted research in cellular mechanisms of behavior at the Moscow State University. There, in 1993 he earned Ph.D. at the Physiology Department. From 1993 till 2007 worked in the USA where he participated in three national institutes of health (NIH) funded research programs. The results of these studies he published in the leading neuroscience journals. He received postdoctoral training at Texas and George Washington  universities. At these universities he studied electrophysiological membrane properties of neurons using various electrophysiological, including patch-clamp, and imaging techniques. Afterwards, he worked as a researcher at the Lucent Technology company and New York University where he invetigated cellular and network mechanisms of the short-term memory. At the Neurology Department of the Northwestern University he held Assistant Professor position where he was investigating pathophysiology of alzheimer disease in genetically modified mice. The research was funded by the northwestern hospital and the results have been published in four articles. Since 2007 Georgi Gamkrelidze works at Ilia State University and holds a full professor position. At the university he lectures and studies effects of myo-inositol, a promising antiepileptic substance, on epileptic brain activity in rodents. During professional career Georgi Gamkrelidze has published twentynine research articles.
